Rabbi David Saperstein,
director of the Religious Ac-
tion Center of Reform
Judaism, Washington, D.C.,
will be the scholar-in-
residence at the 11th annual
Richard C. Hertz Institute on
Reform Judaism Nov. 13-14 at
Temple Beth El. He will ad-
dress the issue of "Jewish
Values at a Time of Crisis."
Rabbi Saperstein will speak
8 p.m. Nov. 13 on "Tough
Choices: Jewish Perspectives
on Social Justice." He will
lead a 9:30 a.m. Torah Con-
vocation Nov. 14 on the sub-
ject of the "Roots of Jewish
Social Justice." Rabbi Sapers-
tein will conclude his visit
with an address to the con-
gregation 11 a.m. on "The
Shifting Sands of United
States and Israel Relations."
Rabbi Saperstein also is an
attorney and adjunct pro-
fessor in comparative Jewish
and American Law at
Georgetown University Law
School. He has chaired four
national interreligious coali-
tions and serves on numerous
boards and committees in-
cluding the NAACP, People
for the American Way and the
Leadership Conference on
Civil Rights.
The Institute is open to the
community without charge.

Jewish Future
Is Rabbi's Topic

"Our House Divided: Will
there be one Jewish com-
munity by the year 2000?"
will be the subject of a lecture
delivered by Rabbi Morton
Yolkut 8:15 p.m. Nov. 11 at
the B'nai David Institute for
Adult Education at the
synagogue.
The lecture is the third and
final in a series titled "Jewish
Dilemmas in the 90's." The
series is open to the com-
munity without charge.

Congregation Shaarey Zedek
will hold its second annual
one-night program called
"Tapestry: Weaving the
Fabric of Jewish Life" 7:30
p.m. Nov. 7 at the synagogue.
Speakers will include
Richard Lobenthal, director
of the Michigan Anti-
Defamation League of B'nai
B'rith; Dr. Lester Weiss, direc-
tor of the Medical Genetics
and Birth Defects Center at
Henry Ford Hospital; Rabbi
Rod Glogower, lecturer for the
Seminary on Jewish Law;
Marvin Kasoff, lecturer on
Jewish topics; Paul Kohn, of
Quality Kosher Catering.
Also Rabbi Greta Bernard
Brown, recent graduate of the
Jewish Theological Semi-
nary; Aviva Silverman,
Jewish educator; Professor
Raymond Tanter, University
of Michigan; Rabbi Leonardo
Bitran; Cantor Chaim Na-
jman; Raquel Pomerantz Ger-
shon; Dr. Leonard Kaplan,
professor at Wayne State
University.
Rabbi Groner will speak on
"Arguing with God: A Jewish
Tradition." Rabbi William
Gershon will discuss "God in
the Bedroom: What Does
Judaism Teach About Sex, In-
timacy and Love?"
This evening will begin
with an original Havdalah
service, followed by work-
shops and discussion groups.
The evening will conclude
with a dessert afterglow and
entertainment.
