Nancy Kaplan has been nam-
ed the new director of the
Midrasha College of Jewish
Studies.
Ms. Kaplan, a resident of
West Bloomfield, has been ac-
tive in Jewish adult study
programs in the Detroit area
since her move here from
Boston in 1988. She is a past
chair of the Adult and Fami-
ly Education Committee of
Hillel Day School and the
Lifelong Learning Committee
of Temple Beth El. She has
served as a member of the
Jewish Federation's Makor
Committee.
Ms. Kaplan was a staff
associate for the Synagogue
Council of Massachusetts.
She also worked as publicity
director for the Rashi School,
the Boston area Reform
Jewish Day School. For two
years, Ms. Kaplan served as
the vice president of her syn-
agogue in Brookline, Mass.

Gravestones
Are Desecrated

Paris (JTA1 — The Jewish
cemetery of Eisenstadt,
Austria, was desecrated last
weekend.
The police of Eisenstadt, in
the southern province of
Burgenland, said that some
80 gravestones were daubed
with swastikas.
A pamphlet was found
there by the police, saying
that this action was meant
to "hail Jorg Haider," head
of the far-right Liberal Par-
ty. The text was signed by a
locally unknown Aryan
Resistance Movement.
