Rossini Concert

The Lyric Chamber Ensem-
ble will present the only
Detroit area gala celebration
scheduled to date for com-
poser Gioacchino Rossini's
200th birthday. "Rossini at
200 — Serata Musicale" will
take place 3:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at
Orchestra Hall.
The concert will showcase
17-year-old pianist Anthony
Bonamici and vocalists Bar-
bara Youngerman, Valerie
Yova, Robert Bracey and
Mark Kaczmarczyk. The pro-
gram will be representative of
the wide variety of media for
which Rossini wrote and will
include three of his overtures
arranged for two pianos/eight
hands.
Anthony Bonamici was the
first prize winner of the Lyric
Chamber Ensemble's "Mo-
zart Youth Competition" in
1991. Mark Kaczmarczyk,
bass, is the founder and music
director of the Detroit
Oratorio Society.
Robert Bracey, tenor, has
appeared with numerous
local arts presenters, in-
cluding the "Brunch with
Bach" Series at the Detroit
Institute of Arts, the Ann Ar-
bor Cantata Singers, and the
University of Michigan Opera
Theatre. Barbara Younger-
man, mezzo-soprano, is a
graduate of Eastern
Michigan University and
Manhattan School of Music.
A resident of Royal Oak, she
appears regularly with
Michigan Opera Theatre,
both with the main stage
company and in their
outreach division. Valerie
Yova, soprano, was a national
winner of the Metropolitan
Opera auditions in 1981. A
resident of Royal Oak, Ms.
Yova is a graduate of New
England Conservatory of
Music. She has toured with
New York City Opera and
OperaWorks of Texas.
For ticket information, call
the Lyric Chamber Ensemble,
357-1111; or Orchestra Hall,
833-3700.
