Bush's Help
Is Sought

Sen. Patrick Moynihan, D-
N.Y. has introduced a resolu-
tion asking President George
Bush to call on the president
of Syria to extradite notorious
Nazi war criminal Alois
Brunner to face trial in
Germany.
"Syria cannot expect to be
readmitted to the family of
civilized nations as long as it
harbors a convicted mass
murderer who was personal-
ly responsible for sending
more than 120,000 Jews to
their deaths during the
Holocaust," Sen. Moynihan
said. "Alois Brunner served
as Adlof Eichmarm's deputy
and played a key role in
planning the infamous Nazi
`final solution.' "
Mr. Brunner has lived in
Syria since 1955, and he has
been protected by the Syrian
government. The Austrian,
French and German
governments have made un-
successful efforts to extradite

Daniel Patrick Moynihan

him.
"We know his address. We
know his alias. We know his
crimes," Mr. Moynihan said.
"It is high time that this war
criminal, who was sentenced
to death in absentia by
French courts in 1954, be
brought to the bar of
justice." ❑

Action Alliance
Petitions Justice

A delegation from New
Yorkers United Against
Racism and Anti-Semitism
stormed the U.S. Capitol last
week, calling for immediate
federal intervention for
what they call the "Crown
Heights Pogrom."
The group, a division of the
Jewish Action Alliance, met
with John Dunne, the head
of the Civil Rights Division
of the U.S. Department of
Justice, in the aftermath of
the murder of Yankel
Rosenbaum, a young
Australian rabbinical stu-
dent who was murdered in
August of 1991 during the
Crown Heights race riots.
"We continue to be appall-
ed by the lack of action in
these cases," said delegation
head Beth Galinsky. "Our
fight for justice has just
begun and we will not give
up until those responsible
for the pogrom, including
the hate-mongers who in-
cited it, and those par-
ticipating in the obstruction
of a proper investigation are
exposed and brought to
justice."
Jewish Action Alliance is
offering a $5,000 cash
reward for information
leading to the arrest and
felony conviction of any per-

son guilty of perpetrating
violent crimes against Jews
during the Crown Heights
incident.
