cow and bull on the table are by
Navajo folk artist Dan Hatt. She pur-
chased the lamps on sale from a local
store. The Sioux warrior near the win-
dows is by Mark Kluck. The throw pil-
lows are kilim, woven antique rugs
from Santa Fe.
She also has a kilim rug in her bed-
room. Her wooden Baker bed has an
Irish country motif covered with Indian
fabric. She reiterates how she loves to
mix things. She reupholstered the
ottoman with a Southwestern fabric.
Her two taupe, overstuffed chairs sur-
round a Navajo clay figurine by Alice
Seeley. Near her night stands are a
Jenny Trammel bowl and a Marie Cash

"In my house, I have what I love. I
don't care if it's matched. It fits in the
room to create a unified look." said
Ellen.
Southwestern art is truly a family
affair for the Rontals. The sisters-in-law
have no trouble fitting in their busy
work and travel schedule with family
functions. Ellen Rontal said her mother
is one of her best customers.
The Rontals are most pleased when
they know they are filling a void in the
local area for South-western art. They
often hear customers say: We went
out west, and it's easier to shop here."

Ornamental
Grasses

Ornamental grasses are neither
flowers that bloom or grasses that
need to be mowed every few weeks.
They are attractive throughout the en-
tire year, and the only upkeep re-
quired is to cut them down every
spring before the growth starts.
Planted in the fall, they thrive
anywhere and are virtually indestruc-
tible, increasing moderately year after
year.
