a red, white and blue abstract by Jack
Tworkov hangs on the wall outside
the owners' future sitting room. On
the wall in the hallway is an oil by
Ellen Phalen and four prints by Grace
Hartigan. Plush taupe wool carpeting
covers the floor.
Another section of the long hall-
way upstairs provides a charming
gallery of old family portraits. "We
are especially happy with the way our
personal things fit in with and add
warmth to the house," the wife
explains.
Following a full day of business
and child care, the owners love to
relax in their bedroom and watch TV.
The sleek, sculptured built-ins in the
master bedroom continue the post-
modern design. Controls for the cove
lighting above the bed are located in
the bedside units. The soft, uphol-
stered wall adds texture behind the
bed, which is covered in an abstract
cotton comforter. On the side wall is
a bright tulip painting by Lowell
Nesbitt.
The owners especially enjoy their
luxurious dressing area. The unique
walk-in master closet with glass
block wall features mirrored walls of
closets and a large floor-to-ceiling
center island of cabinets and draw-
ers. The Andes black granite master
bath with white lacquered cabinets is
dramatically stunning. A band of
mosaic tiles continues the designer's
penchant for intimate detail.
The finished lower level has a fam-
ily room, complete kitchen for enter-
taining, guest room, exercise room,
and changing room that leads out to
the pool. Continuing the flow of the
home's design, the arched columnar
sculpture behind the pool seems to
add another layer to the house.
The owner spends as much time as
he can on the clay tennis courts
located in the woods. "I love being
outside; we enjoy this whole area."
Summing up this postmodern
home Mr. Goldburg says, "This house
provides a perfect combination of the
natural wooded setting, the architec-
ture, the interior design and the art.
Each complements the other and the
result is spectacular." LI
