Temple Beth El Honors
Three Past Presidents
Three past presidents of
Temple Beth El, Robert Can-
vasser, Harvey Willens and
Merton Segal, will be honored
7:30 p.m. Oct. 14 at a Presi-
dent's Tribute Dinner at the
temple.
Robert Canvasser was presi-
dent of the temple from 1969
to 1973, during which time
the present temple was con-
structed. A past president of
both the temple's Married
Group and Brotherhood, Mr.
Canvasser also was the foun-
ding president of the
Synagogue Council of
Greater Detroit, a vice presi-
dent of the National Federa-
tion of Temple Brotherhoods
and a member of the Board of
Governors of Hebrew Union
College.
Harvey Willens served as
temple president in 1973-74,
Three past
presidents of the
temple will be
honored Oct. 14.
Tie
Segal
the first year the temple oc-
cupied its present site. During
his business career, he has
served as president of the
Advertising Typographers of
America, the Printing In-
dustry of America and the Ad-
craft Club of Detroit. He has
served an Allied Jewish Cam-
paign Division Chairmanship
and in trusteeships of the
Sinai Health Care Corpora-
tion and the Boys and Girls
Clubs of Southeastern
Michigan.
Merton Segal served as
temple president in 1975-76.
He is active in numerous in-
surance industry groups and
charities and is a member of
the Society of Chartered Pro-
perty and Casualty Under-
writers, Lloyds of London and
the Michigan Associaton of
Insurance Counsellors and
Casualty and Surety Ex-
ecutives. A Temple Beth El
Trustee for 22 years, Mr.
Segal now chairs the Temple
Beth El Endowment Fund.
President's Tribute Dinner

Temple Plans
Sukkah Fest
Temple Emanu-El will pre-
sent the Super Sukkot
Celebration, culminating in
erev Sukkot services 7:30
p.m. Oct. 11.
The Temple Education
Committee, co-chaired by
Marsha Owen and Jenny Pat-
terson, has prepared a suk-
kah design, which is available
at the temple. The Education
Center is working to facilitate
visits to sukkahs and will
photograph them for a display
at temple.

Adat Shalom Sets
Sukkot Dinner
Adat Shalom Synagogue
will hold a Sukkot Family
Shabbat Dinner 6 p.m. Oct.
16 to honor the synagogue's
new member families.
The event will begin with
services followed by a tradi-
tional dinner. Birkat
HaMazon and songs will be
led by Cantors Larry Vieder
and Howard Glantz.
The evening has been
planned by the synagogue's
Jewish Experiences For
Families Committee and its
Membership Committee.
