Museum Gallery
Hosts Exhibit

Opening the fall season at
the Janice Charach Epstein
Museum/Gallery will be a
painting exhibition through
Nov. 5 featuring the work of
three Detroit-born artists:
Nancy Brett, Brenda Good-
man and Ellen Phelan.
The works have all been
done in the past several years,
and express both the inner
landscape of the mind's eye
and the outer landscape that
is seen and felt in reality,
painted in brilliant colors
across large expanses of can-
vas and wood.
A catalogue will accompany
the exhibition. Gallery hours
are Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.;
Monday-Wednesday, 11 a.m.-6
p.m. and Thursday, 11 a.m.-8
p.m.

The show will run through
Oct. 31.
A native Detroiter, Diane
Levine was educated at
Center for Creative Studies
and Wayne State University.
Ms. Levine has also taught
painting throughout the
Detroit area. This exhibit will
feature the artist's latest
series of paintings, The Noir
Series. Throughout these
figurative paintings, the ar-
tist deals with light contrasts,
using only a sepia-colored pig-
ment on her watercolor
brush. Throughout this suite
a female figure poses with a
plain, wooden chair while a
seated figure lurks, watching,
in the murky background.
Xochipilli Gallery is at 568
N. Woodward in Birmingham;
645-1905.
