Family Violence Is Panel Topic B'nai B'rith Women of Metropolitan Detroit has formed a coalition with the St. Vincent & Sarah Fisher Center to sponsor a corn- munitywide event dealing with the problems of family violence 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at Embassy Suites Hotel, Southfield. The program is titled "The Conspiracy of Silence . . . Changing the Patterns of Family Violence." The event will feature a panel moder- ated by TV2 Eyewitness News anchor, Sherry Margolis. Na'amat USA, Greater Detroit Council, will hear Dr. Sandra Packard at its annual donor luncheon noon, Oct. 29 at Adat Shalom Synagogue. Dr. Packard is the newly ap- pointed president of Oakland University. She served as pro- vost and vice chancellor for academic affairs and pro- fessor of curriculum and in- struction at the University of Tennessee. She also was ac- tive with the Chattanooga Jewish Federation and chaired the education committee. The afternoon will include a fashion show. The invoca- tion will be given by Shirlee Katzman; anthems will be led by Elaine Kohner, accom- panied by Florence Wedes Citarel. Flint Sisterhood Plans Weekend The Beth Israel Sisterhood of Flint will host a scholar-in- residence weekend Nov. 13. The weekend will feature Rabbi Mayer Rabinowitz, librarian to the Jewish Theological Seminary. The theme for the weekend is "Halachah (Jewish Law) and the Conservative Movement: The Case of Bio-Medical Ethics." Services 8 p.m. Nov. 13 will be at Congregation Beth Israel, Flint. The rabbi will deliver the sermon at Shabbat services. Rabbi Rabinowitz will also speak following a kiddush lun- cheon. Saturday evening, the rabbi will speak following the 6 p.m. minyan and a 6:45 p.m. Havdalah service. Rabbi Rabinowitz also will participate in the Sunday mi- nyan and breakfast.
