Registrations are now being
taken for courses beginning
in October at the Midrasha-
College of Jewish Studies.
"People and Families in the
Bible — A Literary Perspec-
tive" will be held for four
weeks 7:30-9 p.m. Wednes-
days beginning Oct. 14 at the
United Hebrew Schools
Building. This course will ex-
amine the biblical per-
sonalities of Jacob, Rachel,
Leah, Isaac, Esau, Rebecca
and Joseph and his brothers
from a literary perspective.
"Philosophers Who Made a
Difference" will meet 7:30-9
p.m. Oct. 22 and 29 at United
Hebrew Schools. Rabbi Sher-
win Wine will discuss
philosophies of Martin Buber,
Baruch Spinoza, Fredreich
Nietzsche and Jean Sartre.
"Hebrew Readiness: A
Rainbow of Ideas," a course of-
fered for Hebrew Teacher Cer-
tification credit, will focus on
the development of techni-
ques in teaching Hebrew to
the pre-schooler and
kindergarten child. It will
meet 7:30-9:30
Thursdays for four weeks
beginning Oct. 29.
"Absolutely Very Beginn-
ing Hebrew Reading" will be
taught by Geri Levit,
7:30-9:30 p.m. Mondays for
nine weeks beginning Oct.

The Midrasha and Con-
gregation Shir Tikvah are co-
sponsoring a course titled
"Beginners Conversational
Hebrew" for students with lit-
tle or no prior knowledge of
conversational Hebrew. It will
meet 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Sun-
days, for six weeks. It began
Sept. 13 at Costello Elemen-
tary School, 1333 Hamman
Road, Troy.
The Midrasha and Temple
Kol Ami are co-sponsoring a
series of courses being held at
Temple Kol Ami. "The Jewish
Heritage as Expressed in
Jewish Art" features lectures
and a slide presentation for
four weeks, Thursdays begin-
ning Oct. 22 7:30-8:30 p.m.
"Making the Siddur User
Friendly" will meet 8:30-9:30
p.m. for four weeks,
Thursdays beginning Oct. 22.
"Great Trials in Jewish
History — A Lunch and
Learn" will explore the
historic context and the
values raised by famous
Jewish court cases from the
17th through 20th centuries.
Participants are to bring a
brown bag lunch; beverages
will be provided. It will meet
12:30-1:30 p.m. Mondays, for
four weeks beginning Oct. 26.
The Midrasha and Temple

Shir Shalom are co-L
sponsoring a "Conversational
Yiddish" course designed for
students with little or no
prior knowledge of Yiddish. It 1
will be held 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Tuesdays, for eight weeks
beginning Oct. 27 at Temple'--;
Shir Shalom.
The Midrasha and Young
Israel of West Bloomfield are
co-sponsoring a course titled
"Issues of Privacy and (
Halachah." It will meet 8-9
p.m. Wednesdays, for four,-
weeks beginning Oct. 28. The
first session will be held at
the home of Dr. Stewart and
Mimi Markofsky, 6593 c
Stonebridge E., West
Bloomfield.

City Of Hope
Holds Walkathon ,=

"Walk for Hope," a 3.5 mile
walkathon to benefit the fight
against AIDS and cancer at
City of Hope National I
Medical Center, will take -‹
place Oct. 11 at Kensington
Metropark in Milford.
"Walk for Hope," which will
follow a course around Mar-
tindale Lake, is open to all
walkers regardless of age or
fitness ability. Registration
begins at 9 a.m. and the
walkathon runs from 9 a.m. ;
to 11 a.m. Walkers can par-
ticipate with a minimum
donation of $12 advance
registration (which includes
free parking), or $15 the day
of the event. The first 2,500
people to register for the
event will receive a free visor.
There will be balloons and cJ
clowns for the children.
News anchor Diana Lewis
of WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 will
be the speaker at opening
ceremonies.

Alumni fraternity of Wayne
State University will hold a
series of luncheon meetings
