mented, "But it must be open
all the way through." This is
to say that, however minute
the opening, it must pierce
the heart completely, to its
very core. So, too, must the
Jew's sense of remorse and
desire to return be complete
and sincere. Only then will
God enlarge the opening and
assist in the process. God
helps those who want to
refashion themselves, to
refine their character, to
redirect their lives, to return
to their roots.
This sacred season sum-
mons us to purposeful action,
to self-renewal and to
regeneration. It assures us
that the future can be better
for us, that our circumstances
can change, and the pattern
of our lives can improve. May
the New Year find us
prepared to enrich the con-
tent of our lives, ready to
meet the challenges and
vicissitudes ahead and
hopeful that, with God's help,
our duties and respon-
sibilities will be blessed with
rich fulfillment and great
achievements.E
