Noting that the govern-
ment of Somalia has an-
nounced it will turn back
any food and medical relief
coming from Israel, the New
Republic notes:
"Thousands of Muslims
are dying each day but,
thanks to Allah, the boycott
against the Jew still
stands."

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Three
terrorists were killed and an
Israeli soldier slightly
wounded in a clash near the
ruins of the Beaufort Castle
in southern Lebanon.
As Israel Defense Force ar-
tillery continued to shell the
area, Israeli troops searched
for traces of the gang.

Americans devote almost
40 percent of their time to
the media, reports a new
study by Veronis, Suhler &
Associates, a New York in-
vestment banking firm spe-
o
cializing in the communica-
tions industry.
Of the 8,760 hours in a
365-day year, the average
full-time worker puts in
about 1,824 hours on the job.
Sleep (at 7.5 hours a night)
° accounts for another 2,737
hours. The largest share of
our time — 3,256 hours, or
about nine hours a day — is
claimed by the "media," in
the fullest sense.
On a daily basis, this
breaks down to:
Television: Four hours, 9
minutes.
Radio: Three hours.
Recorded music: 36
minutes.
Daily newspapers: 28
minutes.
Books: 16 minutes.
Magazines: 14 minutes.
Home video: Seven
minutes.
Movies in theaters: Two
minutes.
The only good news that
— Washington Post columnist
> Richard Harwood saw in this
1 ,1 glut of processed images,
words and notes was that
Americans gave the media
59 fewer hours of their time.
"This," he said, "may
reflect more discriminating
standards of consumption.
On the other hand, it could
be the cumulative results of
these many years of sleep
discrimination."
