Jewish education at the
Cleveland College of Jewish
Studies, Rabbi Schein is
director of special projects and

Reconstructionist movement.
He was ordained at the
Reconstructionist Rabbinical
College in Philadelphia and

Is Beth El Series Topic

A lecture series titled "Jews
and the Encounter with the
New World 1492/1992" will
be presented at Temple Beth
El this fall.
Dr. Judith Laikin Elkin
will begin the series 11 a.m.
Sept. 20.
Dr. Jeff H. Lesser will pre-
sent "Other Jews — Jewish
Life in Brazil" 9 p.m. Nov. 6,
following services.
Dr. Stanley M. Hordes will
speak 9 p.m. Dec. 4, following
services. His presentation

will be "Crypto-Jews of th
Southwest."
Dr. Elkin is a research
scientist at the University of
Michigan and director of a
year-long series of con
ferences "Jews and the En
counter with the New World."
Dr. Lesser is assistant pro
fessor of history at Connec-
ticut College. Dr. Hordes is a
historical consultant and is
engaged in a research proj6ct
on the Sephardic legacy in
New Mexico.
