"Both Sides of Mental Illness" will be presented 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Oakland County Com- missioners' Auditorium, 1200 North Telegraph, Pontiac. The event is sponsored by the Oakland County Council for Children and Adults with Psychiatric Disabilities. Dr. Frese has been director of psychology at Western Reserve Psychiatric Hospital for the past 11 years. He has served on local, state, and na- tional boards dealing with treatment of mental illness. He is widely published and has discussed mental illness on television. The M.I. Council includes Jewish Information Service, Kadima, Keshet and Jewish Vocational Service. The presentation will follow on "Relieving Stress and Nur- turing the Family Unit," featuring Barbara Halpern, an educational specialist with the Oakland University Con- tinuum Center and Macomb Community College, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at the United Hebrew Schools. Hors d'oeuvres and exhibi- tions at Dr. Frese's presenta- tion will begin at 6:30 p.m. Both programs are open to the public at no charge. JPI Sets Sunday Classes The Jewish Parents In- stitute will begin Sunday school classes Sept. 13. Regis- tration will be taken 10 a.m. in Room 150 of the Maple- Drake building. JPI offers classes for children in nursery through the 9th grade, emphasizing a cultural/historic approach to Jewish education. The b'nai mitzvah program combines a community-related work pro- ject with a philosophical study of the Torah and Tal- mud, culminating in a cere- mony shared by the students, their families and guests.
