Kellman-Bregman

Mrs. Ruth Monheit of Com-
merce Township announces
The engagement of her
_daughter, Nina Kellman, to
Dr. Zachary Bregman. Ms.
-Kellman also is the daughter
of the late Arthur Kellman.
Dr. Bregman is the son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Oscar
Bregman of Philadelphia, Pa.
Ms. Kellman earned a
bachelor's degree in music
from Manhattan School of
Music. She is a professional
harpist. Dr. Bregman earned
a bachelor's degree at New
`York University and a
medical degree from the
University of Pennsylvania.
,He is an attending physician
at Beth Israel Hospital in
New York City and is in
private practice.
The wedding will take place
in New York City.

Speakers' Topics

The role of Jews and con-
.Trted Jews in Christopher
Columbus' exploration of
America will be the subject of
a conference Sept. 13 at the
University of Michigan. The
conference is part of a year-
01 .cong observance of the 500th
„anniversary of Columbus'
first voyage to the New World.
► ,,, "Jews and Conversos in the
Encounter" is the title of the
■ conference. Speakers at the
program will include Yitzhak
Navon, a former president of
Israel and a member of the
* Knesset. Mr. Navon will
.peak on "The Sephardi
Heritage" 7:30 p.m. in the
Askwith Auditorium, Lorch
Hall. U-M Professor Zvi Y.
C-itelman will moderate a
discussion following Mr.
Navon's talk.
After afternoon session on
''`Jews and Conversos in the
Encounter" will begin at 1
p.m. in the Askwith
Auditorium. Featured will be
talks on "Columbus and the
onversos" by Brooklyn Col-
lege Professor Angel Alcala,
and "Jews and New Chris-
, tians in Trans-Atlantic
, Trade" by Professor Jonathan
Israel of University College,
London. A discussion follow-
•ng the talks will be
moderated by Miriam E. Bo-
ian, U-M assistant professor
of Judaic studies.
Other sessions in the year-
long series, which is funded
