CONGREGATION SHAARIT HAPLAYTAH IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE

Yisroel through a woman
whom he should never have
betrothed. The cause of this
canker in the Jewish body is
the excessive zeal for
assimilation, the continual
fear of being charged with
separatism.
We are not the only section
of the community who wish to
preserve their identity. The
Roman Catholics, for in-
stance, are not afraid of being
charged with separatism
because they discountenance
intermarriage with members
of other denominations. Let
us not tremble. Let us have
self-respect, and we shall gain
the respect of our neighbors.
Finally there is the un-
thinking, timid section, the
cowards who are ashamed of
being Jews, and who are
always afraid of being known
as Jews. To them the Torah
says you cannot hide your
identity.
Whether you profess your
religion or not, you are con-
sidered a Jew; and it is just
the coward, the one who tries
to pose as that which he is
not, who is caricatured, who
is despised and hated, and he
fully deserves the contempt
that every right-minded per-
son feels for such a man.
It is, therefore, the duty of
the priest, continually to ex-
hort his people to go bravely
into the war, to face the bat-
tle of life and Judaism like
men, like brave and
courageous men. "Hear, 0
Israel, let not your heart
faint; fear not nor tremble,
neither be ye affrighted at
them; for the Lord your God
is He that goeth with you, to
fight for you against your
enemies to save: you." ❑
