BIRMINGHAM CHRYSLER PLYMOUTH DECLARES THAT SUMMER HAS OFFICIALLY BEGUN. Now is the time to buy or lease a Lebaron Convertible. 0 assurances and his continu- ing loyalty to the Labor Par- ty, Mr. Wolman now finds himself "a little at odds" with the Israeli prime min- ister. "I believe in his good intentions, but this business of his about 'centimeters' — it's a problem. Every hill here has strategic impor- tance." Speaking in Katzrin, the largest town (pop. 4,000) in the Golan, Mr. Wolman went on to warn that "negotiations have a way of taking on a direction of their own." What worries him is that Mr. Rabin, against his will, could be forced to give up much more than just cen- timeters. Many of the Golan Jews are quite ready to part with large sections of the West Bank and Gaza as part of a peace agreement. Gil Moskovsky, a member of Kibbutz Natur, affiliated with Kibbutz Artzi, is one of them. "We can't rule the Pales- tinians forever," he said. "I don't want to be a Nazi." Mr. Moskovsky is even ready to part with a tiny por- tion of the Golan, a relative- ly low-lying strip along the Syrian border where the Druze are concentrated, but this is a decidedly minority view in the area. Most residents of the Golan are moderate or left- leaning, but they stress that the Golan Heights are diff- erent fundamentally from the West Bank and Gaza in that the Golan has been annexed to Israel. For now, Jewish leaders in the Golan are confining their activities to lobbying. But they have much wider support than the settlers in the West Bank and Gaza. As the peace talks entered their second week, a group of Knesset members came to Katzrin to warn against con- cessions in the Golan. They were led by Binyamin Netanyahu, now the foremost figure in the Likud, and Labor's Avigdor ▪ Kahalani. None of the Jewish residents interviewed feared that Mr. Rabin would ever give up all of the Golan. But none of them believed that Syrian President Hafez Assad would settle for anything less. If they are right, their fears about "centimeters" will be moot, and the peace negotiations with Syria will go nowhere. And then, with hopes having risen so high, so fast in Washington, there will be new reasons to be afraid. ❑ Chrysler Lebaron Convertibles 239.
