NEW YEAR SPECIALS SHIRLEE BLOOM'S CONGRATS . . . to Bob Seigle . . . on his 65th birth- day . . . celebrated at The Lark where the entire adult family raised their glasses with wife Betty and sons Steve and Jeff of North Carolina in a healthy and hearty double toast to him .. . Bob's recent victory at Knollwood Country Club gave him a golf repeat for the third time in four years as "Flight Champion." THE 14TH ANNIVER- SARY celebration by Ex- calibur was a wild one; bet- ween 700 and 800 people came to celebrate from 5 to 11. New night chef at Ex- calibur, Tim Budzinski, got an immediate indoctrination of putting out lots and lots of good food as he and Executive Chef Pat Dunn kept filling the steam trays with yum yums. In the kitchen, a bar was set up for friends who wanted to "relax" . . . Terry Raskin (no relation), working the kit- chen bar, is a loan officer days at First Security Bank and night waitress at Excalibur . . . Even in the kitchen, even- ing manager John Cetrone was doing his tricks before coming out when the place wasn't so packed to do more magical marvels . . . If you didn't see General Manager Victor Dazbaz, he was in the kitchen most of the evening, making sure everything went OK. Always so much fun people- watching at these events .. . Older gals trying to look younger, and younger gals trying to look older . . . Music by Suzie and Dan was with two pieces plus another songstress also taking the mike . . . Peter Ginopolis be- ing kissed so much his face was starting to take on a red- dish hue from the lipsticks . . . Joe Machiorlatti of Mr. Joe's finally getting on the dance floor for the slower romantic stuff . . . Pretty gal asking fellows to dance with her — no takers so she went out and terpsi'd by herself .. . Song ending as Antonio and Linda Foglia got to the dance floor . . . That's it, thought the Antonio's of Italy owner as he started to walk off, but Linda pulled him back very fast . . . Ernie Palombo danc- ing up a storm . . . Everybody asking, "Where's Arthur Klein?" and he finally show- ed up latter part of the evening. Larry Warren a gracious host for whoever wanted to sit at his large table . . . Only half of excellent husband-and- wife waitpersons team work- ed the affair . . . Matt Walheim did his always wonderful stuff while wife Vickie, who works days at Ex, was home with the kids. When Marty Wilk, Ex- calibur owner, gives a party, he goes all out . . . balloons covering the ceiling, enough food to have two more rip roarin' shindigs, music that never seemed to stop . . . But give him and his staff a lot of credit . . . Everything was done in good taste . . . and in a very well-organized manner. CONGRATS . . . to Al Brook . . . on his birthday .. . 55 years ago, Al and wife Evelyn opened their luggage store in downtown Detroit .. . They still have Cadillac Lug- gage on Cadillac Square . . . A second Cadillac Luggage location opened by son Larry and his 24-year-old son Adam, is now in the Penobscot Building. HENRY BASKIN has been reelected to the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission, of which he has been a member since 1989 .. . The prominent local barrister is one of three State Bar members elected by their peers . . . The courts in which they serve elect four judges, and two non-lawyers are ap- pointed by the governor. LIKE THE SAYING goes, why fix it when it isn't broken? . . . E.G. Nicks has learned its lesson and is back with the original menu in- stead of fooling around with something regular customers didn't take heartily too .. . This is welcome news because E.G. Nicks always has been a good solid family restaurant since it opened . . . The menu has been upgraded with 10 new gourmet pizzas, fresh pasta dishes, etc. . . . It's even giving free dinners now on customer birthdays. CONGRATS . .. to Bessie Gruskin . . . on her 88th bir- thday . . . celebrated with a family dinner. COCO'S DEPT. . . . "Well, it's about time!
