NEW YEAR SPECIALS

SHIRLEE BLOOM'S

CONGRATS . . . to Bob
Seigle . . . on his 65th birth-
day . . . celebrated at The
Lark where the entire adult
family raised their glasses
with wife Betty and sons
Steve and Jeff of North
Carolina in a healthy and
hearty double toast to him .. .
Bob's recent victory at
Knollwood Country Club
gave him a golf repeat for the
third time in four years as
"Flight Champion."
THE 14TH ANNIVER-
SARY celebration by Ex-
calibur was a wild one; bet-
ween 700 and 800 people
came to celebrate from 5 to
11.
New night chef at Ex-
calibur, Tim Budzinski, got
an immediate indoctrination
of putting out lots and lots of
good food as he and Executive
Chef Pat Dunn kept filling
the steam trays with yum
yums.
In the kitchen, a bar was
set up for friends who wanted
to "relax" . . . Terry Raskin
(no relation), working the kit-
chen bar, is a loan officer days
at First Security Bank and
night waitress at Excalibur
. . . Even in the kitchen, even-
ing manager John Cetrone
was doing his tricks before
coming out when the place
wasn't so packed to do more
magical marvels . . . If you
didn't see General Manager
Victor Dazbaz, he was in the
kitchen most of the evening,
making sure everything went
OK.
Always so much fun people-
watching at these events .. .
Older gals trying to look
younger, and younger gals
trying to look older . . . Music
by Suzie and Dan was with
two pieces plus another
songstress also taking the
mike . . . Peter Ginopolis be-
ing kissed so much his face
was starting to take on a red-
dish hue from the lipsticks
. . . Joe Machiorlatti of Mr.
Joe's finally getting on the
dance floor for the slower
romantic stuff . . . Pretty gal
asking fellows to dance with
her — no takers so she went
out and terpsi'd by herself .. .
Song ending as Antonio and
Linda Foglia got to the dance
floor . . . That's it, thought
the Antonio's of Italy owner
as he started to walk off, but
Linda pulled him back very
fast . . . Ernie Palombo danc-
ing up a storm . . . Everybody
asking, "Where's Arthur
Klein?" and he finally show-
ed up latter part of the
evening.
Larry Warren a gracious
host for whoever wanted to sit
at his large table . . . Only
half of excellent husband-and-
wife waitpersons team work-
ed the affair . . . Matt

Walheim did his always
wonderful stuff while wife
Vickie, who works days at Ex,
was home with the kids.
When Marty Wilk, Ex-
calibur owner, gives a party,
he goes all out . . . balloons
covering the ceiling, enough
food to have two more rip
roarin' shindigs, music that
never seemed to stop . . . But
give him and his staff a lot of
credit . . . Everything was
done in good taste . . . and in
a very well-organized manner.
CONGRATS . . . to Al
Brook . . . on his birthday .. .
55 years ago, Al and wife
Evelyn opened their luggage
store in downtown Detroit .. .
They still have Cadillac Lug-
gage on Cadillac Square . . .
A second Cadillac Luggage
location opened by son Larry
and his 24-year-old son Adam,
is now in the Penobscot
Building.
HENRY BASKIN has
been reelected to the
Michigan Judicial Tenure
Commission, of which he has
been a member since 1989 .. .
The prominent local barrister
is one of three State Bar
members elected by their
peers . . . The courts in which
they serve elect four judges,
and two non-lawyers are ap-
pointed by the governor.
LIKE THE SAYING goes,
why fix it when it isn't
broken? . . . E.G. Nicks has
learned its lesson and is back
with the original menu in-
stead of fooling around with
something regular customers
didn't take heartily too .. .
This is welcome news because
E.G. Nicks always has been a
good solid family restaurant
since it opened . . . The menu
has been upgraded with 10
new gourmet pizzas, fresh
pasta dishes, etc. . . . It's even
giving free dinners now on
customer birthdays.
CONGRATS . .. to Bessie
Gruskin . . . on her 88th bir-
thday . . . celebrated with a
family dinner.

COCO'S DEPT. . . . "Well,
it's about time! My mom and
dad won't need it but the
parents of some friends do,
learning more about their
family pets. Then again, mom
and pop think they know all
about me but I don't tell them
things I hold back now and
then for treats. The Animal
Care Fair is tomorrow and
Sunday on the front lawn
(um! sure wish I was invited)
of the Southfield Civic
Center, Evergreen between
10 and 11 Mile . . . Can't beat
the admission charge —

nothing — Please come and
help us. Hours will be 10
a.m.-5 p.m. tomorrow and
noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. ❑
