OPTION A

courses, each one of which is 3 credits.

OPTION B

The Reverend James R. Lyons
CHRISTIANITY ANTI-SEMMSM

Dr. Nancy Gad-Harf, Ph.D
MOSES AND HIS MISHPOCHA

will explore the foundations of anti-
Semitism. The 1800-year history of
separation between early Christians
and their Jewish roots provided the
background for what became racial
policy at the end of the 19th century.
The class will ask the following
questions. How did this come to pass?
What have the results been? What are
contemporary Christians doing to
reverse these false doctrines?

Moses, the great spiritual and
political leader who brought the
Jewish people out of Egyptian
bondage and transmitted to them the
laws of God, is portrayed in Torah as
both towering giant and a very
human person. In this class, we will
study Torah and other textual
material to understand the story of
Moses' life and works, the family
influences that shaped his existence,
and the role his mother Jochebed,
brother Aaron and sister Miriam
played in helping him save the
Jewish people.

The Reverend James R. Lyons is the
Executive Director of the Ecumenical
Institute for Jewish-Christian Studies.

Jewish prayer is dynamic. It is designed
to move us spiritually from one place
to another. In order to fully appreciate
the potential power of prayer, however,
it is helpful to understand its structure,
its history, and its choreography. In the
process you will learn more about
yourself, as the prayerbook is, in
essence, the diary of the Jewish people.
If you have ever wondered why we
bow on certain words, or why certain
customs here at Temple differ from
those of your childhood, this is the
class for you.
