Rabbi Zalman Schachter-
Shalomi will lead a spiritual
weekend retreat Sept. 11-13.
Titled "Across A Lifetime,"
the seminar is being spon-
soredb7' Temples Beth El and
Emanu-El and the Jewish
Community Center. Co-
sponsors are Congregation
Shir Tikvah and the
Midrasha.
The weekend will begin
8:15 p.m. Sept. 11 when Rab-
bi Schachter will address the
congregation of Temple
at Shabbat ser-
vices.. His topic will be "New
Age Spirituality Within
Judaism." The service is open
to the public at no charge.
Rabbi Schachter will lead
two seminars 1-5 p.m., Sept.
12 and 13. The first, "Per-
sonal Reflections on the Days
of Awe," will be held at Tem-
ple Beth El. The second, "The
Next Step: Using Your Ex-
perience to Enrich Your Life,"
will be held at Camp Ruth at
the rear of the Maple-Drake
Campus of the Jewish Com-
munity Center. There is a
charge.
Rabbi Schachter is a
modern day mystic and Kab-
balist. A professor emeritus
at Temple University in
'Philadelphia, he recPived
Lubavitch Smicha in 1947
and earned a doctorate from
Hebrew Union College in
1969. A former director of
B'nai B'rith Hillel and head
of the department of Near
Eastern and Judaic studies at
the University of Manitoba,
he now resides in
Philadelphia.
Rabbi Schachter is the
founder of P'nai Or Religious
Fellowship and the Spiritual
Eldering Project, an exten-
sion of P'nai Or, which
teaches how to use one's life
experiences as a source of
wisdom for oneself and for
future generations.
