VISA INNIm WE SERVICE MOST PCs New York (JTA) — Repub- lican efforts to woo Jewish voters with a staunchly pro- Israel platform and a White House deal with Israel on loan guarantees do not seem to faze Democratic presiden- tial nominee Bill Clinton. In a conference call with members of the American Jewish press, the Arkansas governor came out fighting when asked to respond to efforts under way at the Republican National Con- vention in Houston to pick up more Jewish votes. "My response is that George Bush and Dan Quayle can't hold a candle to the record Al Gore has made in the Senate as a friend of Israel," Mr. Clinton said, comparing the vice president to his own running mate. He added: "I was standing up for Israel when George Bush was moaning that he was one poor little person in the White House being beleaguered by the 'vicious' Israeli lobby, AIPAC. In response to a reporter's question concerning the pro- posed sale of advanced F-15 fighter planes to Saudi Arabia, Mr. Clinton avoided discussing the specifics of the package. Mr. Clinton dismissed the concern that his focus on domestic affairs could en- danger U.S. aid to Israel. "It's very much in our inter- est to remain engaged," he said. "It's simply not an op- tion for us to end all of our foreign aid." Six Leaders To Be Honored New York (JTA) — Six or- thodox organization leaders will be honored on Sept. 13 by the State of Israel Bonds campaign. The honorees are: Mollie Chideckel, president of the Women's League Na- tional Council of Young Israel; Edith Gottesman, treasurer and member of the board of directors of Yeshiva University Women's Organ- ization; Sylvia Schonfeld, national vice president of Emunah of America; Roselle Silberstein, chairwoman of the Gush Dan Building Campaign; Ruth Stillman, honorary president and ex- ecutive director of the Association of Orthodox Jewish Teachers; and Fanny Wald, honorary vice presi- dent of the Women's Branch Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America.
