of his (Mr. Bruzonsky's)
thinking," Mr. Steinberg said,
"but I do know that he would
not be working for us today."
David Gad-Harf, executive
director of the Jewish Com-
munity Council of Metropoli-
tan Detroit, remembered
countering Mr. Bruzonsky on
a local radio talk show a few
years ago.
"He struck me as someone
who had all this enmity to-
ward Israel," he said. "He was
not merely critical; he was an-
tagonistic."
Mr. Gad-Harf said Mr. Bru-
zonsky's statements sound
just like Arab propaganda.
"JCOME is clearly outside
the pale," he said. "And the
fact that they reflect such a
sliver of Jewish opinion dis-
credits them in my eyes."
Judith Miller, on the na-
tional board of the Association
of Reform Zionists of Ameri-
ca, recalled seeing a few of
JCOME's ads. "Any Jewish
organization that is pro-Pales-
tinian and anti-Zionist should
reread history and the Bible,"
she said. "Maybe they'll
change their views if they
learn something."
Sivan Maas, the Israeli
shlichah, or representative,
in Detroit, supports what
FLAME is doing. "We need
the assistance of pro-Israel or-
ganizations like FLAME," she
said. "JCOME's name leads
you to think they're pro-Is-
rael, but all they do is pro-
mote damage.
"I hear some of the things
they (JCOME) say from Is-
raelis or other American
Jews," she said, "but they
don't disassociate themselves
from Israel — we want to
hear opposing views, but this
is different. This is one-sided.
They do not show the whole
picture." ❑

Washington (JTA) — No
sooner had Israel settled a
longstanding dispute with
Washington over loan guar-
antees than another irritant
in U.S.-Israeli relations
emerged this week.
Administration officials
said that President Bush is
"seriously considering" a $5
billion sale of advanced F-15
fighter planes to Saudi
Arabia.
The sale has been under
consideration by the ad-
ministration for several
months, but until this week,
the word was that the White
House would not push for it
right away, possibly not till
after the November elec-
tions.
