Bodzin Chairs
Dedication Event

Pearlena Bodzin will chair
the weekend events as Con-
gregation B'nai Moshe
celebrates its new synagogue
location on Drake Road in
West Bloomfield.
A service will be held 8
p.m., Sept. 4 followed by an
Oneg Shabbat and social
hour. The Young Married
Club will cosponsor the event.
Steven and Susan Rabinovitz
are co-chairman.
Services will begin at 9 a.m.
Cantor Louis Klein will lead
a processional at which
Torahs will officially be
dedicated. Dr. Jason Bodzin
will chant the Haftorah; con-
gregants will participate in
the service. Leonard Wanetik
is chairman.
Following Shabbat services,
a luncheon will be offered, by
reservation only. Rabbi Joel
Roth, dean of the rabbinical
school of the Jewish
Theological Seminary, will be
the speaker. A puppet show
performed by Maureen Schiff-
man will take place for the
children following the lun-
cheon. Michele Borovoy and
Lisa Welford are luncheon co-
chairmen. Robert Roth is
speaker chairman.
The mezuzah given to the
Hirschbein family in recogni-
tion of the work of Robert
Hirschbein will be placed on
the doorpost of the main en-
trance into the synagogue 6
p.m. Sept. 6. Rabbi Pachter
and Cantor Klein will con-
duct a service.
Following the mezuzah
dedication, a 7 p.m. dinner
dance will be held, Cocktails
and hors d'oeuvres will be
served. A march of past
presidents will kick off the
festivities. An evening of
entertainment will be
presented, including dancing
to the Perfect Choice Band.
There is a charge. Sylvia Ross
is chairman. Renee Gunsberg
is chairman of the dedication
ad book.

Congregation Beth Achim
will offer two classes to
prepare for the Holidays. In
conjunction with the National
Jewish Outreach Program
Rabbi Martin Berman will
teach a five-week crash course
in reading Hebrew. The
classes will start 7:30-9 p.m.
Aug. 24 at Congregation Beth
Achim.
Cantor Max Shimansky
and Rabbi Berman will teach
Road Map to the Machzor, a
class to help one understand
the prayers and melodies of
Rosh Hashanah and Yom
Kippur. The class will meet
from 7:30-9 p.m. Sept. 1, 8 and
15.
There are no charges for

Adat Shalom
Plans Campfire

Adat Shalom Synagogue
will hold an Adult Campfire
and Sing-Along 9 p.m. Aug.
22 on the grounds behind the
synagogue immediately
following Havdalah services.
The community is invited to
join in American and Israeli
folk songs and folk dancing
with Cantor Howard Glantz
and Adat Shalom members.
Participants will roast marsh-
mallows and make s'mores.
Dress casually and bring
blankets. In case of rain, the
sing-a-long will move indoors.
Those who wish to par-
ticipate must call the
Synagogue office, 851-5100,
by Aug. 19.

Family Fun Day
Set For Aug. 16

The community is invited to
a Family Fun Day 2:30-5:30
p.m. Aug. 16 in Southfield's
Inglenook Park on 12 Mile
Rd. between Evergreen and
Lahser roads.
A puppet show, pony rides,
clowns and a face painter plus
a concert by the Ron Coden
Show will be offered.
The afternoon will feature
a softball game between the
staff of The Jewish News and
the Maccabi Softball Team.
The Family Fun Day is
sponsored by the
Neighborhood Project in
cooperation with the City of
Southfield and The Jewish
News in celebration oif its
50th anniversary.
Refreshments will be
available. For information,
call the Neighborhood Pro-
ject, 967-1112.
