Raymond Tanter
who has been a staunch ad-
vocate of social service agen-
cies. He has been instrumen-
tal in helping secure state
funds for agencies like JARC
and Kadima, services for
adults with psychiatric
disabilities.
Dr. Geake, who said he has
not given much thought to
his views on Israel, now
faces a long-time incumbent,
Democratic Rep. William
Ford of Taylor, who Jewish
PAC officials say has a poor
record on Israel.
Morris Amitay, executive
director for the pro-Israel
Washington PAC, said the
group contributed to Dr.
Tanter's campaign because
of his known support of
Israel during his years with
the Reagan administration
as a staff member of the Na-
tional Security Council.
With Dr. Tanter out of the
race, Mr. Amitay said,
Washington PAC will step
out of the 13th District elec-
tion.
Judge White
On Nov. Ballot
After last week's primary,
voters in Wayne County
narrowed the nine-person
Judge Helene White
field of judges running for a
seat on the Michigan Court
of Appeals to two women
who currently serve on the
Wayne County Circuit
Court.
One of the women, Judge
Helene White, 37, is a
known face in Detroit's Jew-
ish community. She is active
with the American Jewish
Congress, and she serves as
programming chair for the
Jewish Federation's Busi-
ness and Professional Wo-
men division.
Ms. White will face Judge
Cynthia Stephens in the
race to replace retiring
Court of Appeals Judge
Joseph Sullivan. In the
primary, Ms. Stephens and
Ms. White were the top vote
getters.
The Michigan Court of
Appeals hears cases after
they have gone through the
lower court system.
JCCouncil
Urges Voters
Are you registered to vote?
Would you like to get others
registered to vote?
The Jewish Community
Council is looking for help in
its efforts to get all Jewish
men and women of voting
age registered to cast ballots
in the November presiden-
tial election.
To do so, the JCCouncil
and the Oakland County
Clerk's office of elections are
offering a training session at
6 p.m. on Monday at the
Pontiac office for those in-
terested in becoming coun-
tywide deputy registrars.
For more information, con-
tact Allan Gale at the Jew-
ish Community Council,
642-5393.
