There are more than 600,000 hysterectomies performed on women in the United
States each year. A standard hysterectomy is not a simple operation. But now
there are far less drastic medical procedures available to women thanks to the
evolution of innovative procedures in gynecology, many of which have been
developed at Sinai Hospital.

Disraeli. He became the
British Prime Minister of
Queen Victoria, was con-
verted to Christianity by his
father and yet held prideful-
ly the glories of his Jewish
ancestry. Queen Victoria is
reported to have asked him,
"What are you, Disraeli?
Which testament is yours?"
He replied with sadness, "I
am, dear Queen, the blank
page between the Old and the
New Testament."
Hopefully Sam and Peggy
will learn to recognize and
respect the uniqueness and
difference of the Jewish and
Christian outlook and not
lead their children to inherit
the blank page of the
testaments. For all the com-

Shin Bet Arrests
Terrorist Group

Jerusalem (JTA) Israel's
General Security Service,
more widely known as the
Shin Bet, recently scored a
major victory in the ongoing
struggle against the ter-
rorist organizations in the
administered territories.
The domestic intelligence
service apprehended mem-
bers of the Moslem funda-
mentalist Az-a-Din Al-
Kassem group, which is
allegedly responsible for the
murder of eight Israelis and
at least " 20 Palestinians
.suspected of having col-
laborated with the au-
thorities.
The arrest of the terrorists
was regarded here as a
major blow to one of the most
dangerous groups which
identify with Hamas, the
Moslem fundamentalist ter-
rorist organization.
According to Palestinian
sources, members of the
group were actually turned
over to authorities by Pales-
tinians identified with the
mainstream Al Fatah organ-
ization, which could no
longer tolerate the terror
carried out by the funda-
mentalist group within the
Palestinian population,
mostly in the Gaza region.
The 15 members of the
group have been operating
in the Gaza Strip for the past
two years. In the past year,
security forces have killed
several members of the
group, and others were ap-
prehended, some during an
attempt to flee to Egypt.

awareness of the profound
dissonance between religious
cultures. Their resolve to hold
incompatible traditions in
one household would not on-
ly distort the uniqueness of
each faith civilization but
compromises their own in-
tegrity. With the best of in-
tentions, Peggy and Sam
thought to offer their off-
spring the best of religion.
But, to paraphrase San-
tayana, such is the attempt of
those who would speak in
general without using any
language in particular.
Judaism and Christianity are
particular languages, with
preciously unique syntaxes,
which when thrown together
produce a babble of tongues.
Sam and Peggy have impor-
tant decisions to be made. If
they build their lives on the
narrow edge of the Judeo-
Christian hyphen they offer

The last three active
members of the group were
caught last week in an
apartment in the West Bank
town of El Bireh, north of
Jerusalem, following intel-
ligence reports.
A senior officer disclosed
last week that the security
forces had been searching
throughout a wide area
when a reserve soldier
spotted suspicious activity in
an apartment which turned
out to be the hideout of the
wanted terrorists.
Security sources estimated
that the three men ap-
prehended —Mahmoud Ali
Mahmoud Harej, Mahmoud
Jamahin Abu-Ayyash and
Mahmoud Abdul Karim
Tayeb, all of Gaza — had
moved to the West Bank in
an attempt to leave the
country, as they felt they
were close to being caught.
The security sources said
that in the apartment they
found Karl Gustav sub-
machine guns, as well as
ammunition and hand
grenades.
Probably the most in-
criminating among the
cache were videocassettes on
which were recorded the
murder of two Israelis, as
well as the brutal interroga-
tion of Palestinians
suspected of collaboratio
with the authorities.
The incriminati'
cassettes were apparel. ,
