Hearing Loss
Support Groups

JPM Plans
Senior Events

The Jewish Community
Center will hold Hearing
Loss Support Group meetings
during August. The group, at
the Jimmy Prentis Morris
building, will go on a group
outing to the Michigan Bell
Special Needs Center 10 a.m.
Aug. 14.
The group will hear a
presentation by Sinai
Hospital audiologist, Karen
Finn, on the topic, "It's A
Noisy World" 10 a.m. Aug. 28.
Ms. Finn will discuss hearing
loss prevention in our en-
vironment and useful tech-
niques to preserve hearing.
The Center's newest group
for adults under the age of 55
will meet for a social evening
of game playing 7 p.m. Aug.
12 in the library of the Maple-
Drake building. Adults with
hearing impairments who are
seeking an opportunity to
meet with others will enjoy
playing board games and par-
ticipating in interesting
conversation.
The support group meeting
1:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at Maple-
Drake will view and discuss a
videotape on coping
strategies presented by Dr.
Sam Trichin.

The Senior Adult Choir of
the Jimmy Prentis Morris
Jewish Community Center
will present a special enter-
tainment 1 p.m. Aug. 10.
Guests will include members
of the Prentis Bell Choir. Ad-
mission to the event is one
can of kosher food. All food
collected will be donated to
the Yad Ezra Food Pantry
which serves those in the
Jewish community who are in
need.
Weekly drop-in contract
bridge sessions will be offered I
at the JPM 12:30-3 p.m.
Tuesdays. Supplies will be
provided and light
refreshments will be served. •
There is a charge.
Blood pressure and fast
blood sugar tests are offered
through Sinai Hospital's
Senior Health Screening each
Thursday 1-3:30 p.m. at the
JPM. •
Stanley Clamage will lead
a weekly Bible study class 11 4
a.m. Wednesdays at JPM.

The Adult Services Depart-
ment of the Jewish Com-
munity Center will host its
annual picnic 11:30 a.m. Aug.
24 at Camp Ruth, on the
grounds of the Maple-Drake
campus, which will include a
barbecue and musical enter-
tainment by Judy Goldstein.
Reservations are necessary;
there is a charge. Transporta-
tion will be provided from the
Jimmy Prentis Morris
Building in Oak Park.

Join Family Practice

Congregation Beth Achim's
Young At Heart Seniors will
join the other affiliates for a
Family Picnic Lunch 1 p.m.,

Hebrew Reading
Classes Set-
' Aish Halbrah/Aleynu will

offer two classes — a Crash
Course in Hebrew Reading
Levels I and II.
The Crash Course in
Hebrew Reading Level I is for
people who want to learn how
to read Hebrew. The program
will begin 7-9 p.m. Aug. 10 at
Young Israel of Southfield.
The next three classes are on
the following consecutive
Mondays. This is a free
program.
The Crash Course in
Hebrew Reading Level II is
for people who have taken the
Level I program or who al-
ready have a basic understan-
ding of the Hebrew language.
The proram will begin 7-9
p.m. Aug. 11 at Young Israel
of Southfield. The next three
classes are on the following
consecutive Tuesdays.
Both programs will' be
taught by Mrs. Leah Rosen-
berg and are free to
participants.
