of things we're doing at the
pops concerts," explained Mr.
Hayman, who has been
musical director for the tour
shows of Kenny Rogers,
Olivia Newton-John, Engel-
bert Humperdinck, Al Hirt,
Andy Williams and Bobby
Vinton, among others.
"The CDs feature hit tunes
and light classics, just a little
bit of everything that we feel
is good music and lends itself
to being played by a
symphonic-size orchestra."
A little offbeat from the
usual symphony appearance
is Mr. Hayman's garb, with
colors and glitter that can
take some members of the au-
dience back to vaudeville
performances.
"It's from my early years in
show business, when lights,
costumes and scenery played
an important part in the pre-
sentation of those shows," he
laughed. "I felt it was a good
idea to add that to the con-
certs as another dimension.
"If something's pleasant to
the eye as well as the ear,
there is something extra for
the audience."
As Mr. Hayman makes his
plans for Israeli audiences, he
will be working closely with
members of the Israel
Philharmonic.
"If they have some specific
selections in mind, I will
write arrangements for those
selections," he said. "I will
conduct the orchestra in all
the arrangements that I -
write, and we'll do them in
public concerts and in the
recording studios so that we
get a double and worthwhile
use out of them."
