"We may recommend that
people just sit on their
hands," she said, "or that
they vote for Clinton. But for
the time being, I see nothing
in the Democratic campaign
but a lot of blather. Because
he's not Bush, that doesn't
mean that Clinton is the an-
swer."

New Battles Set
For Foreign Aid

many are beginning to plan
for difficult foreign aid
battles that may await them

With the federal budget
stretched to the breaking
point and anti-foreign aid
sentiment rising, Jewish ac-
tivists expect to support the
entire foreign aid program,
not just aid to Israel. This is
the focus of a new foreign aid
task force created by the
Conference of Presidents of
Major American Jewish
Organizations.
Involved with be several
member organizations of the
conference, with each group
working in areas where it
has expertise. There will
also be grass-roots organi-
zing by local community re-
lations councils and other
groups.
Some Jewish organiza-
tions will try to broaden
outreach to Christian
groups.
The American Jewish
Committee, for example,

will try to build support
,-, among minority groups by
tapping its extensive net-

work of links with such
groups.
Among these, said Jason

Isaacson, Washington repre-
sentative for the AJC, will
be Eastern European, Asian
' American and Haitian

The goal, he said, is to
spread the word that foreign
aid buys jobs for American
workers, strengthens the
U.S. economy and leads to
global stability.
