ment of Rehabilitation
Medicine will sponsor a golf
workshop for physically
i challenged adults and
rehabilitation professionals,
Aug. 14-15 at Schoolcraft Col-
_ lege, Livonia, and Oasis Golf
Center, Plymouth.
The second annual event,
called "First Swing," will
cover the principles of
teaching adaptive golf techni-
ques, equipment and skill
development to disabled
sportsmen and women in
order for them to resume or
begin an active interest in the
game.
The course will be taught
by Tom Quinn, program direc-
tor, First Swing Program, Na-
° tional Amputee Golf Associa-
tion (NAGA); Bob Wilson, ex-
ecutive director, National
Amputee Golf Association;
and Lynn Waldecker, Ladies
Professional Golf Association
r member.
The first day of the program
will be held specifically for
rehabilitation medicine pro-
fessionals such as occupa-
tional, physical and recrea-
tional therapists. The second
day will offer the expertise of
these professionals to
physically challenged adults

who are anxious to learn the
game of golf. Both sessions
will include classroom in-
struction, as well as an oppor-
tunity for a hands-on prac-
tical application of principles
and techniques taught.
The program schedule is as
follows: Aug. 14 (for rehab pro-
fessionals only), Oasis Golf
Center; 8:30 a.m. registra-
tion, 9-11 a.m. basic golf in-
struction; noon — Golf Scram-
ble. Aug. 15 (morning
schedule for rehab profes-
sionals only), Schoolcraft Col-
lege, 8:30 a.m. registration;
9-10:30 a.m. classroom in-
struction; 10:30-11:30 a.m.
practical application of
techniques. Afternoon
schedule for rehab profes-
sionals and physically
challenged adults: Oasis Golf
Center, 1-3:30 p.m. — prac-
tical application (putting,
driving, videotaping).
In addition to Sinai
Hospital and the NAGA,
other sponsors of the golf
workshop include Disabled
American Veterans, Michi-
gan Bell and Progressive
Orthopedics.
Registration is required for
"First Swing." The workshop
is free to the physically
