Of Detroit Bagel

Samuel Anbender, of
Southfield, died July 28. He
was 71.
Mr. Anbender was founder
and operator of Detroit Bagel
Factory until 1976. He owned
and operated Schnelli Deli
with three locations in
Detroit.
He was a member of
Morganthau Lodge of B'nai
B'rith, Jewish War Veterans
and Furniture Club.
He leaves his wife, Arlene;
son and daughter-in-law, Jef-
frey and Bunny of Oak Park;
daughters and sons-in-law,
Beth and Ronald Cohen of
Southfield, Suzan and
William Thompson of Birm-
ingham; sisters and brothers-
in-law, Ida and Mike Aaron of

Stacy S. McCracken, 35, of
Petoskey, Mich., died July 25.
She was a member of Tem-
ple B'nai Israel sisterhood
and taught history and
Hebrew at Temple B'nai
Israel religious school in
Petoskey. She worked as a lab
assistant at Northern
Michigan Hospital for 16
years.
She is survived by her hus-
band, Timothy; daughters,
Jamie M. and Erika L.
Schwartzfisher of Petoskey;
stepson, Sean McCracken of
Petoskey; mother and father,
Melvin L. and Beverly A.
Holden.

Ralph Friedman,
AJC Chairman

New York (JTA) — Ralph
Friedman, philanthropist,
business executive and
former chairman of the ex-
ecutive board of the Ameri-
can Jewish Committee, died
last week of cardiac failure.
He was 88.
In the years preceding his
term as chairman of the
AJCommittee, Mr. Fried-
man was active in Jewish-
Roman Catholic relations
As AJCommittee chair-
man from 1964 to 1966, Mr.
Friedman helped sponsor a
Roman Catholic-Jewish
research center in Rome to
combat prejudice and anti-
Semitism in religious
teachings around the world.
He was also a conserva-
tionist and a patron of the
American Museum of
Natural History.

During the coming week Yeshiva Beth Yehudah will
observe the yahrtzeits of the following departed friends,
with the traditional memorial prayers, recitation of kaddish
and studying of mishnayos.
