T

he Greater Detroit
Council Na'amat USA
held their annual
spiritual adoption luncheon,
raising funds for Israeli
children, on July 16 at Beth
Abraham Hillel Moses. More
than 100 patrons attended
the event that honored
Charlotte Rothstein, the
former mayor of Oak Park.
The event included a fashion
show with designs from
Timon students, schools in
Israel that are funded by
Na'amat.
Elaine Kohner was
chairman of the day and in-
troduced her friend from
Central High School,
Charlotte Rothstein. Mrs.
Kohner noted that her friend
is special in many ways be-
cause not many people have
a park named in their honor.
Bernice Shapiro, chair-
man of the fashion show, in-
troduced all the unique fash-
ions that were modeled by
Na'amat members. Peasant
dresses, evening gowns and
casual outfits were shown.
Some of the designs were
very unusual, including a
three-piece short outfit with
a large scarf tied around the
waist.
Sy and Ann Kaplan,
Esther Berlinberg, Pearl
Nusbaum, Jeanette Serl-
ing, Etta Kaplan and
Sophie Rosenstein were
honored for fund raising.
Some of the other Na'amat
supporters included: Evelyn
Noveck, council president,
Ruth Miller, Emma
Schaver, Bethea Green,
Blanche Rose, Doris
Boschan, Mona Cohen,
Joanne Moss, Sarah
Rothstein, Betty Rath,
Sarah Friedman, Esther
LaMed, Alice Ross, Har-

riet Goldman, Florence
Citarel and Miriam Zacks.

cruise was cancelled due to
the poor weather, but the
working spirit remained
with supporters wearing
captain hats throughout the
event. Some of the Bar-Han
supporters include Bar-
bara and Bernie Stollman,
Joel and Lauren Bruss,
Michael Horowitz, Dave
and Blanche Pollack, Neil
and Esther Zalenko.

SYME'S 50th
Rabbi M. Robert and
Sonia Syme recently
celebrated their 50th wed-
ding anniversary with a
tribute at Temple Israel.
Sons Danny and David
expressed their love and ap-
preciation with a piano
recital. Linda Brodsky,
president of Temple Israel,
presented the Symes with a
