Federation Grants
Aid Local Groups

The Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit has
allocated $100,067 in grants
to help students with
disabilities learn about
Judaism, to strengthen the
statewide network of Jewish
communities, to promote
graduate studies leading to
careers in Jewish communal
services and to support the
National Jewish Endowment
for the Arts and Humanities.

The Michigan chapter of
P`TACH, Parents for rIbrah for
All Children, received a
$15,000 challenge grant to
help cover its operating
deficit this year. The program,
which provides secular and
Jewish education for children
with learning disabilities in
day schools, must raise
$35,000 to receive the
allocation.
The Michigan Jewish Con-
ference was granted $25,195
toward its 1992-93 operating
budget. Since its inception
two years ago, the statewide
network of 13 Jewish com-
munities has focused on ser-
ving as a liaison to the state
government and the Lansing
political community.
The MJC, which also ad-
ministers the Litvak Founda-
tion grants for Jewish com-
munity programming outside
metropolitan Detroit, will
receive the balance of its
1992-93 funding from the rest
of its membership.

Project STaR at the Univer-
sity of Michigan was
allocated $54,972 as part of
the community's support for
the program, which promotes
collaboration between the
Jewish Federation and U-M
in training future Jewish
communal professionals. In
cooperation with the Wexner
Foundation, the program in-
tegrates graduate-level
Judaic studies with profes-
sional courses in social ad-
ministration, evaluation and
research, planning and policy
development, and community
organization.

A $5,000 seed grant for
each of two years will help
fund development of the
Jewish Endowment for the
Arts and Humanities. As part
of the National Foundation
for National Jewish Culture,
the endowment will be
dedicated to the enhance-
ment of Jewish life in
America through the support
and promotion of arts and
humanities. It will encourage
innovation and excellence in
artistic, scholarly and com-
munal expressions of Jewish
culture.
