Mrs. Robinson's last school
board meeting in June at the
urging of board of education
trustees Larry Wright Sr. and
Robert Wright.
The resolution announcing
the award cites Mrs. Robin-
son, in part, for being:
"An active school and com-
munity volunteer for most of
her life, giving her time to a
myriad of organizations and
causes including the League
of Women Voters, Jewish
Community Council, Metro-
politan Detroit Round Table
Of Christians and Jews, the
Oakland County Employment
and Training Council, Library
of Congress Braille Tran-
scribing Program and Uni-
versity of Michigan Alumni
Association."
870,000 Jews Not
Registered Voters
Nearly a million American
Jews will be unable to cast
ballots in the presidential
election this November be-
cause they are not registered
voters, a new study by the
Synagogue Council of Ameri-
ca shows.
The study, conducted by
Professor Steven Cohen of
Queens College, shows that
at least one adult Jew in five
is non-registered. This means
that at least 870,000 of the 4.3
million American Jews of vot-
ing age are not registered.
The SCA study says those
who have moved within the
last three years, those under
35, and those with lower lev-
els of education are the most
likely to not be registered vot-
ers.
"The erosion of Jewish vot-
er registration levels will in-
evitably translate into an
erosion of Jewish political
strength," says Irving Silver-
man, project coordinator of a
recently launched SCA voter
registration campaign. "This
study must be seen as a
wake-up call to every rabbi,
communal professional and
Jewish lay leader to make
sure to register and to urge
their congregations, board
members, organization mem-
bers and Jewish friends and
neighbors to register in time
to vote in November."
To help increase the num-
bers of Jewish voters, the
Jewish Community Council is
sponsoring several voter reg-
istration drives. In addition,
the JCCouncil is recruiting
deputy registrars.
To vote in the November
general election, you must be
registered by Oct. 5.
For information on how to
register, or how to become a
deputy registrar, contact Al-
lan Gale at the JCCouncil,
642-5393.
