Task Force (composed of

ing and dynamic leader."
Robert Brown, a board
member of the JCCouncil,
said Mr. Haddad "is an ex-
tremely intelligent in-
-_ dividual who is very much in
tune with not only the Chal-
dean community but the
surrounding communities in
---) which he lives." When Mr.
Haddad, who is 3 1 ,
c 'graduated in political
, science from Oakland Uni-
versity in 1985, he took a job
--,:- with the City of Southfield
as a community aide.
Soon he was asked to use
his unique interpersonal
' skills to aid code enforce-
ment officials. Mr. Haddad
explained that 80 percent of
Chaldeans come from Iraqi
villages where attention to
home appearance is secon-
dary to their small shops.
- From this experience, Mr.
Haddad became known as
the unofficial "Chaldean
liaison" at city hall.
...and now I'm living it!"
"I haven't had this much fun in years! I've met new friends. I'm involved in
activities. I 'm happy — and so is my family. Before, housekeeping was a chore,
cooking for myself wasn't fun, and I didn't feel secure living alone. Now, my family
has peace of mind... and I 'm having the time of my life! "

Mr. Haddad has
shown unusual
commitment to
building bridges
with the Jewish
community.
"When I was working for
Southfield, I developed a
great relationship with the
Jewish community. Many of
them used to call on me with
questions to understand the
Chaldean community," Mr.
Haddad said.
"And I enjoyed telling
them these facts. I kept tell-
ing myself that I hope one
day I would become involved
in a big educational program
where I could educate the
non-Chaldeans about the
Chaldeans and how unique
they are."
' Mrs. Imerman said the
Jewish community has a lot
r to gain by the bridges Mr.
Haddad is building. "We
were struck by the simi-
larities between the history
of the Chaldean community
and our own history in corn-
ing to this country. We have
a lot of common ground.
I - . We've also faced a lot of pre-
judice as we've tried to make
our way in this country." 0
