ensured residents that they
would not be sent any fur-
e ther mailings from real
estate companies.
"It's all a question of
perception," Mrs. Gordon
said. "We live in a fabulous
location with wonderful peo-
ple and great schools. I still
_._,can't understand what the
'problem is."
Gary Allman, president of
Ir Sharon Meadows since 1990,
H, makes it his mission to get
out and meet as many
residents of the subdivision
as possible. He goes on foot,
`'door-to-door. He particularly
likes to hand-deliver news-
letters.
Henry and Ruth Widrich,
Sharon Meadows residents
since 1967, remember when
all the association did was
-collect money for snow
, removal and lawn services.
"For years all the associ-
ation did was take care of
snow removal and lawn cut-
ting," Mr. Widrich said.
"You didn't know any of
'-- your neighbors."
Not until a couple of years
ago, after Mr. Allman
became president, did the
association became more
than a tree cutting or snow
removal service.
"Today it acts as a liaison

to the city and constantly
works to improve our area,"
Mr. Widrich said.
Even city officials attend
Sharon Meadows events.
Judy Womble, vice president
of Sharon Meadows, ac-
cepted a trophy July 9 on
behalf of the Sharon
Meadows Association for
their victory at their second
annual Neighborhood
Games Competition.
The June 28 games, at the
Beechwoods Recreation
Center, included balloon
tosses, egg-and-spoon relays,
three-legged races, water-
melon eating contests.
Upcoming events include
an Aug. 2 neighborhood pic-
nic at Inglenook Park. The
fourth annual subdivision
garage sale took place this
past weekend.

Mrs. Womble, who moved
to Sharon Meadows in 1985,
had a successful garage sale
at her home.
"It's never dull around
here," she said. "I have a
sense of community and a
sense of family. We don't
always agree on everything,
but no one leaves mad.
There isn't anything we
can't all work out to-
gether. ❑

mailings, they are now 150
homes short of their goal of
,_-_-,1,200.
"We still need a lot of
r, houses," said Morton Plant,
general chairman of the
games. "We're not in a com-
fort zone yet."
Two weeks ago, the JCC

reported that they needed
300 more homes in the Jew-
ish community to accom-
modate the approximately
2,600 athletes who will be in
Baltimore from Aug. 23-30
for the games. The response
from the community had
been disappointing and or-
ganizers feared the worst —
that large delegations like
Detroit, Los Angeles and
Chicago would have to leave
some of their athletes home.
But now the numbers look
a little better and some of
those fears have begun to
fade. "I don't think Detroit
athletes will have to worry
about not being invited,"
Mr. Plant said. "But I don't
want to be too optimistic
yet."
Lauren Kronthal, a
marketing account ex-
ecutive for the Associated -
Jewish Community Feder
ation of Baltimore, on loan
to the JCC to serve as hous-
ing coordinator, said the re-
sponse to the JCC's cries for
help has "restored her faith"
in Baltimore's Jewish com-
munity. "In the last week
and a half, it's been the
Baltimore community I
know," she said. El
