Calligraphy
On Display

Concurrent with a nation-
wide conference at Oakland
University, the "best of
American and Russian
calligraphers" will exhibit
their works at the County
Galleria, 1200 N. Telegraph,
through July.
Funded and with ar-
rangements by the Interna-
tional Typeface Corporation
of New York City, this display
of nearly 200 works adopts
imagery from the fine arts
and blends it with letters.
Jurors Alice, Larry Brady,
Rick Cusick, Sheila Waters
and Arne Wolf identified 72
pieces (from more than 600
submissions) to be included in
the American portion of the
show. Shown in this exhibi-
tion is a selection of some of
the finest calligraphic work
from artists in the two
countries.
A reception, hosted by the
Oakland County Cultural
Council and provided by the
Merchant of Vino, will be held
6-8 p.m. July 14.
The exhibit, which opens
July 1 and continues through
the month, is open to the
public Monday through Fri-
day 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. The
County Galleria will display
the Russian and American
works on the first and second
floors of the Executive Office
Building and in the atrium.
