Rabbi Leonardo Bitran has
been appointed assistant rab-
bi of Congregation Shaarey
Zedek.
Rabbi Bitran will serve the
membership at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek B'nai Israel
Center in West Bloomfield
and also will assist with the
synagogue's religious school,
Eugene and Marcia Apple-
baum Beth Ha-Yeled Building
and Jewish Parenting Center.
Rabbi Bitran was ordained
in May at the Jewish
Theological Seminary of
America, where he also
received his master's in
Jewish studies with a major
in Talmud and rabbinics. Rab-
bi Bitran, a former native of
Chile, attended the Universi-
ty of Chile, where he receiv-
ed a master's in economics.
He also attended the Rab-
binical School of Buenos
Aires and the Seminary's Bet
Midrash in Jerusalem.
Since coming to the United
States, Rabbi Bitran served
Congregation Olam Tikvah
in Fairfax, Va., Congregation
