nearly cried.
"This is such an incredible
outpouring of people wan-
ting to help," she said.
"There's no way to properly
thank everybody."
More than 50 women last
week attended a shower at
Wendy Heller's West Bloom-
field home to benefit newly
arriving Russian families.
The former Soviet families
couldn't be there, but that
didn't stop guests from br-
inging close to 120 presents
and $600 in checks.
Karen Kraft of Farm-
ington Hills thought of pots
and pans. Barb Horowitz of
Bloomfield Township
brought a highchair and four
sets of towels. Jane Hauser
of Lathrup Village came
with an iron, sets of glasses
and towels.
"Soviet Jewish families
arrive with only two suit-
cases to begin their lives in
our community," Mrs.
Feldman told the room full
of women. "They des-
perately need basic
household items."
Resettlement Service
operates a warehouse for
Soviet families at Northland
Center in Southfield.
Warehouse hours are Tues-
day and Wednesday from 12
p.m. to 2 p.m.
"Our Soviet families de-
serve to get some new
things, too," said Joyce

Meckler Miller of West
Bloomfield.
A recent Jewish News edi-
torial, "If It's Garbage, Keep
It," made such an impres-
sion on shower hostess Roz
Blanck, she decided to do
something about it.
The editorial lamented the
number of dirty and damag--
ed items donated to the
warehouse. "I was appalled
when I read the editorial,"
Mrs. Blanck said. "I had no
idea the situation was that
bad."

said. "We just hope our
shower inspires others to do
