A partner in the accounting firm of KPMG Peat Marwick, Mrs. Shatzman has been active on the Jewish Family Service Board of Directors and committees for over nine years, most recently serving as Vice-President and Chairman of the Clinical Services Com- mittee. She has just completed her term as President of The Orchards Children's Services and was a former Chairman of the Michigan State Board of Accounting. In her spare time, she pursued her Jewish education through the study of hebrew and recently celebrated her Bat Mitzvah and she enjoys playing the piano. In her inaugural address Mrs. Shatzman mentioned the many positive experiences she has had in her involvement with the agency over the years. "At Jewish Family ▪ • OP • Janice Shatzman, J.F.S. president, delivers Inaugural adress at the recent annual installation wetting. Service, Board members and volunteers really can make a difference. They have the opportunity to provide real input into the development of policies and the creation of new programs and services to benefit the community. They become the strongest advocates and one of the most effective marketing tools that we have." she said. She cautioned that the major challenge facing the agency is the issue of scarce resources. The board must continue to pursue endowments and the staff will need to seek grants and foundation support to fund programs previously supported through Federation and United Way dollars. The most important priorities for the agency must include the continuation of the Family Violence Prevention Program, accessibility to services through the West Bloomfield Branch office and the provision of other concrete services for people at risk. She noted that despite the many excellent programs which the agency offers, there continue to be gaps in services, which scarce resources will not permit us to fill. Among these are substance abuse prevention programs specifically aimed at the Jewish commu- nity. She expressed the hope that this issue could be addressed during her term of office. A name fund has been established by Mr. and Mrs. Sol Benaderet, in honor of their daughter Janice's election to the Presidency. In keeping with the wishes of the family, the Shatzman/Benaderet Family Fund will benefit a specific Jewish Family Service Program. Mrs. Shatzman and her husband Jerald live in West Bloomfield and are the proud parents of two daughters, Jessica and Amanda.
