ART GLASS

AT SHERWOOD STUDIOS

Nathan Cohen will be following in Danny Friedman's footsteps.

character to work out the
• kinks in his game. "He's an
incredibly hard worker. And
the best thing about him is
> <-, his self-control on the tennis
court. He is quite in control of
the whole situation."
,D
Gelman, a third-year varsi-
,
ty player, posted an 8-9 record
this season. He played No. 4
singles as a sophomore and
moved to No. 3 the past two
' -To
years. He was also a regional
finalist, losing in three sets.
Gelman doesn't focus on
• tennis year-round, but
--- McKnight said he "does a
:-, good job for the amount he
plays." Gelman has a "decent
all-court game," McKnight
, said. "He doesn't have any
_`glaring weaknesses."
McKnight sees Gelman's in-
• telligence as a powerful
weapon on the court. "Gabe is
a wonderful student. He is
probably the top student —
our whole tennis team has
(-= good averages — but he is an
incredibly smart young man
J and he reflects that on the
tennis court."
Hitsky played No. 3
doubles, along with freshman
Brad Righettini. The pair
:_, were Groves' only regional
champions. They won a first-
> round match at the state
tournament and finished the
year with a 15-6 mark.
McKnight described Hitsky
as "a good, smart doubles
player. He lobs and has a real-
ly good court sense."
McKnight called Hitsky the
"captain" of his doubles team.
"He's helped (Righettini) im-
mensely by encouraging him
and making sure he's in the
right position, and that kind
of thing," she said. "And
they've just worked real well
together. They have excellent
communication and I think
it's all because of David."
Hitsky was the team's
Parent's Award winner. The
award is given to the out-
standing athlete-scholar-
leader of each of Groves' var-
sity teams. He was also voted

the Most Improved Award.
Justin Green, a junior,
played a utility role this year.
He often played doubles in
matches which featured a
fourth doubles team and fill-
ed in occasionally as a singles
player.
"Whenever we needed a
guy to fill in he did a wonder-
ful job for us. He's a real team
man. He contributed a lot in
a supporting role," said
McNight.

Munitions Plant
Is Closed

Tel Aviv (JTA) — A muni-
tions factory in central
Israel has been shut down
for several days while a
panel of experts determines
the cause of an explosion
that killed two workers.
The dead were identified
as Yamin Zion of Rehovot
and Ovadia Aboud of Bat
Yam.
Five other employees were
injured. Two remained in
critical condition at Sheba
Hospital in Tel Hashomer
with burns covering 65 to 95
percent of their bodies. Doc-
tors said that if they survive
they would require many
months of treatment, skin
grafts and rehabilitation.
The Defense Ministry
meanwhile named Brig.
Gen. Ami Sagis of the Israel
Defense Force ordnance
department to head a com-
mission of inquiry into the
blast. Other members in-
clude executives of Israel
Military Industries, the
government-owned corpora-
tion that runs the plant, and
outside experts.
For the time being, the ex-
plosion has been described
as a "work accident" at-
tributed to a "technical
fault." It occurred in the
course of assembling a
"delicate item."
