Paris (JTA) — The Inter-
national Association of Jew-
ish Lawyers, meeting this
week in Paris, announced
the publication of a compen-
1 ilium of all the European
l_legislation against racism,
anti-Semitism and
xenophobia.
Israeli judge Hadassah
(1=Ben-Ito, president of the
; association, told the Jewish
P="felegraphic Agency that the
new democracies of Eastern
Europe repeatedly asked for
documents on the ways used
by Western democracies to
fight discrimination.
"Such a document, corn-
' rprising everything done in
that field, did not exist until
' 'today. This is why we took
upon ourselves to publish
this compilation of all the
laws passed by European
countries on that issue," she
.paid.
The announcement was
'made in Paris, in the
presence of the highest
French judiciary authorities,
at the home of Joseph
Roubache, vice president of
the lawyers association.
A special meeting of the
L,T-3wish Lawyers Association
devoted to the issue of pro-
- riding legal counseling to
the new Eastern European
democracies will be held
next fall.

cliakes A Dive

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Israel's
cost-of-living index took an
exceptional dive during
May, dropping by 0.4 per-
cent, the Central Bureau of
Statistics announced.
It was one of the rare drops
in the index in recent years,
and the biggest decline in 23
years.
The biggest contributor to
the decline was a 14 percent
seasonal decline in the price
of fruits and vegetables.
The average urban family
of four persons now requires
about $ 1,800 a month to
break even.
— Monthly living cost figures
for the first five months of
- 1992 forecast an annual in-
flationary rate of 12 to 14
percent.
Spokesmen for the
Histadrut, Israel's trade fed-
p.ration, wondered if the May
decrease was the result of
-pre-election price manipula-
tions by the government,
while industrialists and
employers stressed that the
burning problem at the mo-
ment is not inflation but ris-
ing unemployment.
