But in the decade following the reunification of the city in June 1967, a series of UN resolutions condemned all Israeli building, urban de- velopment and archeological work east of the 1949 ar- mistice line. THE JULIUS CHAJES VUSIC FU\D CO\CERT SERIES 1991 - 1992 SEASON FACT: FACT: Mental illness strikes every religion, race, creed and socio-economic status; it does not discriminate. Mental illness is defined as a chemical imbalance in the brain and affects thinking, not intelligence. An adult with mental illness is depressed, withdrawn, delusional and frustrated; not the homi- cidal maniac portrayed in the media. FACT: Adults with mental illness first show symptoms between the ages of 18 and 25. However, mental illness can strike children, adoles- cents and the elderly. FACT: Through proper medication, counseling, support of family and friends and vocational opportunities, adults with mental illness can and do lead productive and fulfilling lives. FACT: According to the National Institutes of Mental Health, one in eight adults has a mental illness. Therefore, it is assumed approximately 9,000 Jewish adults with mental illness reside in Southeastern Michigan. Kadima needs to rescue the "silent" Jewish mentally ill. Through your support, Kadima can fulfill our mission of providing a warm, nurturing environment to Jewish adults with mental illness and help them to re-enter the community as productive citizens. Support Kadima at our 1992 Gala Fundraiser, "Jazz in the Courtyard," on September 13, 1992. For information, please call (313) 559-8235. THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS 43
