tities. The program, Dr. Zorea
says, guided the strategic
direction of a firm's products,
found beta test sites and
developed markets in the U.S.
He developed six companies
between 1982 and 1987, when
the incubator program was
discontinued. Two of those
companies, Oprotech and
Fibronix went public and are
now multi-million dollar ven-
tures. "We started those com-
panies from scratch. They
started with one entre-
preneur and a business plan,"
Dr. Zorea says.
An Argentinean native, Dr.
Zorea says investors can feel
a sense of involvement by
joining an investment club.
"i think it's a positive
outlet to becoming closer to
Israel by knowing what's go-
ing on. And from that
perspective, I think it's a
wonderful activity."
He believes, however, that
because of the limited
number of Israeli securities
traded in the U.S., it is dif-
ficult for investment club
members to make "a signifi-
cant impact" on the Israeli
economy. Instead, he suggests
that American Jews should
invest larger sums of money
to develop private firms.
"I believe that the time is
becoming appropriate for
Jewish people in America to
organize for the purpose of in-
, vesting in private com-
panies," Dr. Zorea says.
"I think this is the ideal
way for the Jewish communi-
ty to participate directly in
the development of companies
that will be two-legged opera-
tions," he says. "And I hope
this will become a reality
shortly. I think it can happen
before the end of the decade.
People will become more
familiar with all the details
and will be ready to risk more
than today." ❑
