be allowed to make up any
school work that may be miss-

That decision pleased
parents like Trudy Weiss. Her
son, Aaron, 15, a sophomore
at Harrison High School, will
be on the Detroit Maccabi
basketball team after playing
on the soccer squad the past
two summers.
"The schedule problem was
unintentional and the solu-
tion showed a lot of under-
standing for the students and
their parents," Mrs. Weiss
said.
About a week before
heading to Baltimore, the
Detroit Maccabi delegation
will have a kick-off meeting
at the Jewish Community
Center in West Bloomfield.
The youngsters will receive
their uniforms, travel plans
will be discussed and final
details will be announced.

together and the youngsters
will stay with their assigned
host Jewish families in the
Baltimore area. No excep-
tions. Nobody gets star
treatment.
Detroit will have com-
petitors in all the Maccabi
sports: Softball, soccer, tennis,
racquetball, basketball, track
and field, swimming, table
tennis, volleyball, wrestling,
gymnastics, karate and golf.
Coaches are still needed in
wrestling, gymnastics and
karate, and those interested
should contact Horowitz at
737-0639, evenings.
Practices have begun, with
some sports going through
more intense and frequent
workouts than others.
All the Detroit Maccabi
competitors are paying $500
to attend the Games. That
covers their $235 registration
fee and other needs, which
are taken care of by the Mac-
cabi Club.
There's a $150 sign-up fee
for "credentialed" adults, like
coaches. Horowitz said adults
normally pay as much as they
can afford to defer costs to the
club. El
