Temple Israel will hold a
special Shabbat service
honoring the 50th wedding
anniversary of Sonia and
Rabbi M. Robert Syme 8 p.m.
June 26 at the temple. The
program will include presen-
tations by their sons, Rabbi
Daniel B. Syme and David
Syme.
Mrs. Syme has been an ac-
tive member of the temple
and the greater Detroit com-
munity as chair of the
Sisterhood interfaith pro-
gram; creator of the Institute
on Judaism for the benefit of
suburban school teachers;
head of religious education
for Temple Israel Sisterhood.
She is a lecturer on "Respon-
sa," a teacher of medical
ethics and vice-chair on the
board of directors of Botsford
Hospital.
Rabbi Syme is a former
regional president of the Cen-
tral Conference of American
Rabbis (CCAR) and the
Zionist Organization of
America (ZOA), a member of
the Rabbinical Council of the
United Jewish Appeal, board
member of the Jewish Na-
tional Fund, past president of
Family Service Society of
Metropolitan Detroit.
Rabbi Daniel B. Syme is a
vice president of the Union of
American Hebrew Congrega-
tions (UAHC), and David
Syme is a noted pianist.
