raising event in New York to

anti-hunger organization

organizing support for the

The idea behind the event

of the inter-organizational
squabbles and turf battles
that characterize so much of
( Jewish communal life.
"Dinner Without Dinner"

implies: a fancy-dress occa-
sion with beautifully set

Martin Wenick is leaving
his post as executive director
of the National Conference
on Soviet Jewry to become
executive director of the
Hebrew Immigrant Aid
Society (BIAS), the 112-year-
old organization facing new
challenges in supporting
refugees from the former
Soviet Union and Eastern
Europe.
Mr. Wenick, a former
State Department official
with extensive experience in
Eastern Europe and the
former Soviet Union, will
divide his time between
Washington, where he has
been based, and New York
— in effect, adding con-
siderably to the HIAS
presence in the capital.
"This means that we will
strengthen our activities in
Washington," he said in an
interview. "We will have a
higher profile." 0
