Jewish Players Aided Class B Tennis Teams STEVE STEIN Special to The Jewish News ewish tennis players made quite an impact on the Class B state meet held last weekend at Kalamazoo College. Perennial champion Bloom- field Hills Cranbrook won its sixth straight state title and 12th in 13 years. Bloomfield Hills Andover was runnerup for the second season in a row. Both were greatly aided by the performances of Jewish players. Three won state titles. Andover sophomore Jared Miller captured the No. 2 singles championship with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Cran- brook's Eddie Chung. The win gave Miller a final 25-2 record this season. It was his fourth victory in four mat- ches against Chung. One of j And so are we! Two Jewish players clashed for the No. 3 singles crown in the state meet. Cranbrook sophomore Brian Stewart top- ped Andover senior Rick Goldman 6-3, 6-4. Another Cranbrook sopho- more, Brad Dubin, was a member of his team's state champion No. 1 doubles unit. Dubin combined with Jason Karolak to defeat Andover senior Brad Shulman, who is Jewish, and Mick Wierzbicki 6-4, 7-5 in the finals. Andover's No. 2 doubles team of freshman Justin Goldfarb and sophomore Gurston Nyquist, two more Jewish players, made it all the way to the semifinals. Historical Society To Cite Judge Cohn The official opening of the Jewish Community Archives on June 14 and the Jewish Historical Society of Michigan's annual meeting and luncheon will feature the presentation of the Leonard N. Simons Award to Judge Avern L. Cohn. Justice Charles Levin of the Michigan Supreme Court will make the presentation. Chairman of the archives committee of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, Judge Cohn is a past president of Federation and recipient of the Fred M. Butzel Memorial Award.
