Dr. W. Gunther Plaut, editor
of The Torah: A Modern Com-
mentary, as its Samuel Ham-
burger Scholar in Residence
June 12-13.
Preceding the Friday Shab-
bat service will be a dinner at
6:30 p.m. Rabbi Plaut will
speak at the service as well as
Saturday morning.
Rabbi Plaut is the senior
scholar at Holy Blossom rIbm-
ple, Toronto, Ontario. He was
educated at the Universities
of Heidelberg and Berlin and
ordained at the Hebrew
Union College-Jewish In-
stitute of Religion., in Cincin-
nati, Ohio. He earned a Doc-
tor of Laws degree from the
University of Berlin.

lunch and learn on "The
How's and Why's of Jewish
Prayer" 12:30 p.m. June 12

nati, where he served as
director of the Jewish Teacher
Center and the Cincinnati
Reform Jewish High School,

Ailing Rebbe
Recuperating
New York (JTA) — Twelve
weeks after suffering a
debilitating stroke, the
Lubavitcher rebbe was
taken in his wheelchair to
visit the newly renovated ,
Lubavitch library building,
adjacent to the Chasidic
movement's headquarters at
770 Eastern Parkway in
Brooklyn's Crown Heights
neighborhood.
This marked the first time
since the stroke that Rabbi
Menachem Schneerson left
the headquarters.
