The Bel Canto Choral
Society is looking for women
who read music and enjoy
singing to audition for next
season. The group is led by
Eugene Branstrom and ac-
companied by Rochelle Barr.
Members are professional
and semi-professional women
who enjoy rehearsing and per-
; forming a wide variety of
music. Rehearsals take place
on Monday nights during the
Sept.-June season, with per-
formances scheduled as con-
tracted. Bel Canto is a non-
profit organization co-
sponsored by the City of
Southfield.
Auditions will be scheduled
by appointment during the
month of June for the coming

At Meadow Brook

The Detroit Symphony Or-
chestra 29th summer series of
concerts at the Meadow
Brook Music Festival will be
July 2-Aug. 9.
July 2, 4: Mitch Miller will
open the season with a pro-
gram titled "March Along
with Mitch," featuring light
classical marches by Victor
Herbert, Delibes, Fucik and
Tchaikovsky. July 4th will be
commemorated with an all-
American celebration. Both
concerts will end with a
display of fireworks.
July 10, 11: Music from the
move Fantasia will be
featured led by DSO Music
Director Neeme Jarvi.
July 17, 19: Entertainer
Marvin Hamlisch will return
to lead the DSO in perfor-
mances of some of his hits
from Broadway and
Hollywood.
July 24, 25: A laser light
show with the full Detroit
Symphony Orchestra will
feature music from science
fiction movies.
August 1: DSO pops conduc-
tor Erich Kunzel will lead the
DSO in music from two
Broadway composers —
Stephen Sondheim and An-
drew Lloyd Webber.
August 2: Richard Hayman
will present a program of his
popular works.
August 8, 9: An all-star
dance program will feature
dancers from the New York
City Ballet and the San Fran-
cisco Ballet in an all-
Tchaikovsky program
highlighted by excerpts from
Swan Lake.
